I posted a question about a Trojan message in Tut 3 but unfortunately I didn't get an answer. I hope I will be luckier this time.
With AVG Res Shield on I can't open the files, off, I can open them. What I would like to know is: what, inside the files, makes AVG notify this as a Trojan. I would appreciate an answer or if someone could direct me to a web page with an answer.
And thanks again, Lena, for very informative lessons.

There are a few solutions to make this work. you can either change a jump instruction by examining the flow of the program in IDA. Or alternatively try fuzzing keyfile.dat and running Ollydbg to see how the program behaves.

Instruction CMP AL,47 at address 004010CB
is a loop to compare the keys. Play around with key length and content to see what will make it work.

Reversing for Newbies - Complete

Good to see you are still around and in good health I hope. I liked your comment regarding your hubby – a loyal and loving wife is to be cherished, and an intelligent wife is a true blessing. I have been looking for a complete set of your tutorial for several days now. I started my search once I became aware of your work. I located it on “The Pirate Bay” (very interesting group – a lot of moxy), but no seeding etc., so no complete DL, and then my AV software tried to give me hell by erasing certain files. I suspected false alarm due to comments I found by you on their system. I too would like to see an intermediary to advanced tutorial as well even if it is somewhat out dated and obsolete. Principles and concepts can still be learned and advanced and eventually updated. Student understudies may be of benefit to you on such an undertaking. Just a thought – but maybe? Additionally are there any other tools such as this one you might recommend? I am most anxious to get up to speed I have been away for a very long while.
I hope to hear from you soon and with good news as well,
yo yo
